Welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year. We all here at Sharp hope you have a safe and restful summer break.  As we negotiate the new “normal” for the present time, we have some information we would like to share.

The office staff will be returning on Thursday, July 23, 2020, to prepare for the following school year. The office staff will be working in a hybrid model until further notice. We will be in the office from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. daily. We are presently enrolling students for the 2020-2021 school year. We have three options for community members to enroll students.

• Community members can pick up a paper/pencil application during office hours starting Thursday, July 23, 2020.  Once completed the applications can be dropped off at the school during office hours.
• The application is also on our Sharp Website at http://dwisl.mandegar-tab.com under the Covid-19 tab. You can download the documents, complete them, and turn them in during office hours.
• Parents can also visit the LAUSD website at http://enroll.lausd.net/ and complete the enrollment process completely online.

The enrollment process does take time since District Policy mandates we let all paperwork sit for 72 hours before we can handle the paperwork for our safety. We are also working on getting devices to our students for Distance Learning. In order to do this, we do need to collect all Chromebooks, Hot Spots, and IPADs from students no longer returning to Sharp for the 2020-2021 school -year. We will begin collecting devices on Thursday, July 23, 2020, during office hours. We also need to collect all the IPADs from last year’s first graders. At Sharp, our Kindergarten through first-grade use IPADs, and our second through fifth-grade students use Chromebooks. We will be disinfecting the devices and preparing them to distribute to students.  As mentioned last school year, we are a one to one school from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. All students needing devices can have one. We will be setting up appointments for parents to sign out a device if needed.  Parents do need to sign the paperwork taking responsibility for the device. If you have a device presently that does not work properly, you can call (213) 443-1300 and they will assist you remotely or schedule you in for an in-person appointment.

The 2020-2021 school year starts Tuesday, August 18, 2020. You will be receiving information in the mail shortly letting you know your child’s teacher. Teachers will be reaching out to parents so please make sure that we have your updated information in our system. You can visit the parent portal to update information or complete an emergency card located on our website and turn it in during our office hours.
